How to properly install and maintain industrial conveyor belts?
Guidelines for Installation and Maintenance of Industrial Conveyor Belts
I. Installation Steps
Preparatory work
Check whether the new belt model and length are compatible, and clean any oil stains and impurities from the surface of the pulleys.
Loosen the tensioner or adjust the center distance to avoid forcibly prying the belt into place.
Installation and Tensioning
Insert the belt along the correct path, ensuring that the teeth are fully engaged (for synchronous belts, align each tooth precisely).
Adjust the tension: by pressing method (sink 10–15 mm) or by rotating method (no slippage/no unusual noises).
Verification
Manually turn the shaft to check for any sticking or jamming. Then, run the unit under no-load conditions for 10 minutes, observing the temperature rise and noise levels.
II. Maintenance Points
Regular inspections: Check for wear, cracks, and looseness, and replace damaged belts promptly.
Environmental Protection: Avoid contact with acids, alkalis, and oil stains; operating temperature ≤ 60℃; install a protective cover.
Long-term inactivity: Loosen the belt to prevent aging.
III. Common Mistakes and Consequences
Forced installation: Causes the core wire to break.
Pulley misalignment: unilateral wear, skipped teeth.
Improper tension: Too loose, and it slips; too tight, and it accelerates fatigue.
